St. Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei, did not write theological treatises. Ese año se creó el Instituto Rural Valle Grande, para contribuir a mejorar el nivel humano, profesional y espiritual de las familias campesinas. Brinda asistencia técnica y de gestión a los pequeños agricultores de los valles de Cañete, Yauyos y zonas aledañas.

Montserrat Grases: Teenager

Carlos grew up in an extremely poor family and was an active member of the Communist Youth organization before the Spanish Civil War. He was a political prisoner of the Franco regime and served in the Spanish Foreign Legion. He worked in a fish shop and eventually started a fish shop of his own. After his conversion and joining Opus Dei, he dedicated much of his energy to trying to improve the lives of local gypsies (as people called them then) and illiterate coal miners.

The Gift of Interior Peace

The month of May is traditionally the month of Mary. To begin these days dedicated to our Mother, we are sharing a portion of St. Josemaria Escriva's homily on To Jesus Through Mary from his book Christ is Passing By.

St. Paul's initial transformation was a dramatic shift from Saul to Paul, from persecutor to believer, from darkness to light. And yet, the scales falling from his eyes was only the beginning: he lived and taught the lesson of transformation for the rest of his life.¬†

The Four First Things

A meditation preached by Fr. Eric Nicolai at Kintore College, Toronto, on May 14, 2026. John 19, 25-27:  Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. It is one of the most oft-represented scenes in art: Jesus on the cross, with Mary and John below, weeping, in pain. It was right after the soldiers had divided his garments into four parts, one for each soldier, as though they were getting precious relics in that moment, but they were seeing these garments as pieces that they themselves might wear, or sell. He is saying to us now, before Pentecost: Behold your mother. Stay with Mary in the month of May so that you might truly be touched by the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is coming.

During the Spanish Civil War he was undaunted by the many dangers he faced in supporting the founder of Opus Dei and its members in war-torn Madrid. In 2016 Pope Francis declared him Venerable.

Toni Zweifel: Foundation Executive

How do I find fulfillment in life? How do I obtain happiness? Despite a multitude of self-help books in recent years, these eternal questions have become increasingly urgent in today's directionless world.
Author Jacques Philippe provides some answers. In his new Christian self-help book, Called to Life, he explains that a complete and fulfilled life is much more assured when we stop trying to chart our own course, when we realize that we are essentially creatures called by God. For the apostles, it was manifested by a powerful wind that shook the house that they were in. Like a powerful tornado, a divine presence that no one could ignore. Fr. Paul Donlan&#39;s meditation on the Gospel of Luke’s story of Martha and Mary of Bethany, highlights the tension between active service and contemplative prayer. Martha as the competent, bustling hostess and Mary as the attentive listener at Jesus’ feet. Martha’s frustration at Mary’s lack of help leads her to complain—even command—Jesus, to which He gently responds that Mary has chosen “the better part.” Traditionally, Martha has represented the active life and Mary the contemplative, but that Christians are called to integrate both: to live “actively contemplative and contemplatively active.” Fr. Paul warns against “activism,” which loses interior connection to Christ, and urges cultivating an inner contemplative spirit even amid daily duties, whether family tasks, professional work, or in the daily commute - transforming ordinary moments into prayer.
