Building virtue to stay deeply in love

Jesus Christ came to earth not only to save us from sin and death but also to show us how to embrace suffering and persevere through temptation.In this podcast, Fr. The Temptations of Christ

What does it really mean to follow Jesus and take up our cross each day? In this meditation, Fr. Luke Mata reflects on Christ’s challenging call in Luke 9:23 to deny oneself, take up the cross daily, and follow Him, emphasizing that authentic Christianity cannot exist without sacrifice and self-denial. He explains that the “cross” is usually not dramatic martyrdom but the small, hidden acts of daily mortification and self-discipline through which believers die to their own desires and unite their sufferings with Christ. By freely embracing suffering and offering it in love, Christians participate in Christ’s redemptive work, transforming pain into a means of salvation for themselves and others. Fr. Luke urges believers to rediscover the spiritual value of sacrifice and to courageously live a faith that accepts the cross, trusting that through it God brings life, redemption, and renewal to the world.

Does a pornography addiction invalidate a marriage?

In our meditation of the week: Fr. Peter Armenio reflects on the first evangelical words of Christ—&quot;Come and see&quot;—and the power of personal witness in evangelization. He highlights how spreading the Gospel does not require grand gestures but genuine relationship, as seen in the example of John the Baptist, who led his disciples to Jesus, and in the early Church, where ordinary laypeople shared the faith in their daily lives.  Drawing from John 1:39, Fr. The Christian Vocation - Christ is Passing By

In this podcast, Fr. Donncha Ó hAodha reflects on how the universal call to adoration is the source of our happiness and the source of our true human flourishing and maturing. We can achieve our fullest human and spiritual potential insofar as we worship and adore God with our whole being and with our lives. The universal call to adoration, to give all the glory to God, especially through our ordinary, secular, daily, and sometimes mundane/repetitive realities, in no way demeans the human person, but rather raises us up, embellishes all that we have, and enhances all that we are. As we celebrate the Feast of the Archangels (September 29), Fr. Donncha reminds us that the first function of the angels is to give glory to God. St. Michael, St. Gabriel, and St. Raphael are adorers of the Lord! It&apos;s not surprising that the saints, like St. Josemaria Escriva, would have great devotion to the Archangels, who stand before the throne of God and who kneel before the throne of God in adoration. The Book of Job tells us that man&apos;s life on earth is a struggle or battle. There is, undoubtedly, a battle going on between good and evil. For all of us in the Church, the Archangels are our great allies. We&apos;re not alone in our battle. What does it mean to be saved and redeemed? The Bible often reminds us that we are in need of the salvation and redemption which is offered to us in Christ. St John of Avila, proclaimed a doctor of the Church in October 2012, offers illuminating insights on the Holy Spirit in the collection of homilies first published by Scepter in 1959. Presented as sermons given around the feasts of Ascension and Pentecost, the saint speaks directly and to the point, yet is thoughtful and affectionate in his style. He proceeds in the form of a dialogue to present the Great Unknown. The sermons begin with a short introduction and then come to a particular point supported by Scripture texts, quotations from the Fathers, well-chosen illustrations, and his own original insights. 
 Many believers may find these feasts somewhat puzzling and obscure. St. John shows how they are among the greatest feasts in the Christian calendar and deserve to be better understood.

The Holy Spirit Within

An architect and Catholic convert, Henry Menzies (who died in February 2017) originally self-published this short book which trumpets the joys, benefits, and absolute necessity of real friendship for the sake of happiness, health, and virtue. Menzies takes you on a tour of friendship through famous figures of history, recent writers, and ancient scholars. When you finish reading this book, the names, phone numbers, emails, birth dates, and anniversaries that make up the glue of real life will seem more sacred and life giving instead of dreary duties. In essence, this little book shows the value of a good friend.

One of the young men who accompanied St. Josemaría Escrivá on his escape to freedom during the Spanish Civil War was Tomás Alvira. He wished to follow the founder of Opus Dei in a life of apostolic dedication, but as a married, rather than a single, person. St. Josemaría advised him to wait and, at the right time, he could become part of Opus Dei as well as be a family man with wife and children, which happened within 10 years.

If we have to ask ourselves “who is my neighbor?”, then we are already setting limits and conditions. When the wife is the primary breadwinner

In this podcast, Msgr. Fred Dolan guides us to pray and ask God to help us to stand back to take a look at our life on earth and to realize that our time here is very short. The great project of our life is gradual transformation into another Christ, explains Fr. Fred. We long to change and to be transformed. Therefore, a sign that we truly and passionately want to be fully alive is our willingness to be mindful of every moment and day of our life. We don&apos;t want to be sleepwalking or flying blind through life. We want to reflect on deeper things and focus on things that are important, asking ourselves often: Why do I give so much importance to things that just do not matter in the bigger scope of things? This gives us perspective and peace. And it allows us to give ourselves and our souls space to take time to do things calmly and in the right order. Fr. Fred also shares strategies that can help us to live heroically every minute of our life, including not allowing ourselves to waste time trying to undo the past and focusing on the importance of helping our loved ones prepare for death. The Great Project of Our Life

THE LITANY OF LORETO originates many generations back in Church history and popular devotion continuously added appellations of Mary as an expression of thanksgiving, honor, or petition. Even in modern times, the number of titles given to the Blessed Virgin Mary continues to grow, with approvals of new titles by two of the last three popes.
This book on the Litany summarizes the origin of the present 53 titles. The explanations help deepen one's Marian piety while also learning about the history of the Church and Mary's constant and powerful help in protecting and advancing it. Those who pray the Litany of Loreto after reciting the Rosary will be enriched by learning more about each of these titles of the Blessed Mother.

Steps to overcoming the sin of pride

Fr. Eric Nicolai preached this meditation on June 26, 2023 at Kintore College in Toronto. We know that Saint Josemaría Escrivá died in 1975: after stepping out of that elevator, looking at an image of our Lady, and at that moment he had accomplished his mission here on earth. Going up the elevator was like the first step towards heaven. 
Days after his passing, Don Alvaro had to gear himself up for what was coming, and he wrote a long letter to all of us: Nuestro padre en el Cielo. Our Father in Heaven. I remember reading it often. God granted our founder a spiritual paternity that embraced everyone he came into contact with. And since this paternity was completely supernatural, it has only been strengthened by his going to heaven. Here&#39;s an account of what it should look like.

The Visitation: A Sincere Gift of Self

A meditation preached by Fr. Eric Nicolai at Kintore College in Toronto on August 10, 2024. Yesterday was the feast of St. Edith Stein, Theresa Benedicta of the Cross. Beatified in 1987 then canonized in 1998 by Pope John Paul II.  She is one of the 6 patrons of Europe.
Both she and St. Lawrence (today&#39;s feast) were martyrs for the faith.
She was a Jew that converted after reading Theresa of Avila, and studying with Edmund Husserl. Then she went on to become a Carmelite nun. She was killed at Auschwitz. 
In 1941 she wrote to a friend, who was also a member of her order: &quot;One can only gain a &quot;scientia crucis&quot; (knowledge of the cross) if one has thoroughly experienced the cross. I have been convinced of this from the first moment onwards and have said with all my heart: &#39;Ave, Crux, Spes unica&#39; (I welcome you, Cross, our only hope).&quot; Her study on St. John of the Cross is entitled: &quot;Kreuzeswissenschaft&quot; (The Science of the Cross).

"Thomas More is more important at this moment than at any moment since his death, even perhaps the great moment of his dying; but he is not quite so important as he will be in about a hundred years' time." In 1929, G. K. Chesterton made this claim with acute perception. One of history's greatest lawyers and statesmen and most admired figures of all time, Thomas More was voted "Lawyer of the Millennium" by the Law Society of Great Britain and named "Patron of Statesmen" by John Paul II. He combined immense humanistic learning with an unequaled command of the legal and political traditions of Christendom, forging a profound philosophy of statesmanship and freedom. He possessed the virtues of an exemplary husband, father, and friend and the detachment and interior peace of a saint. He thus emerged from the first great crisis of modern tyranny—a crisis that would claim his life—as the model of a truly free man, whose conscience and character no despot could subvert. Thomas More was canonized in 1935 as Hitler was rising to power and the world needed an example of courage and skill in the face of the greatest of dangers. Opus Dei & the Sanctification of Work (Rebroadcast)

In this podcast, Fr. Donncha Ó hAodha guides us to pray about the gift of the month of November. It is a great gift because it gives us the opportunity to focus on reality, to focus on the truth and love of God, and to recover our perspectives on our own journeys through time and to eternity. This is important, as Fr.
